Performing Arts Excellence

Aims of the Academy
The aim of the Performing Arts Academy is to develop a practical competency and understanding of performing arts and contemporary music styles. Additional extracurricular activities are offered to advance students learning beyond the classroom. Students are expected to participate in a variety of these activities as part of their participation in the Performing Arts Academy. 
Opportunity is also provided for students to perform at school and wider community events. 

Selection Criteria 

Students are selected to participate in the Performing Arts Academy based upon a desire to learn about performing arts to showcase their skills through practical performance. 

A demonstrated record of attendance at rehearsals and formal instrumental lessons are prerequisites for selection to the program. An audition will also be required before acceptance into the program.

Staff Qualifications 

The teachers involved in the Performing Arts Academy have diverse backgrounds and professional experiences, specialising in a variety of disciplines, including vocal and dance performance, percussion, orchestral strings, brass and woodwind and technical/studio production. 

Entry Requirements 

  • All students applying to be part of the Performing Arts Academy are required to attend a formal audition. This process will include a 3-5 minute individual performance piece followed by a brief interview. The audition piece could include, but is not restricted to: an instrumental performance or 
  • a vocal performance or 
  • a dance performance or 
  • a musical composition. 

Conditions of Enrolment 
  • Taking part in a minimum of one curriculum based instrumental lesson each week (drumline, strings, band, choir). 
  • Maintaining a strong commitment to ensembles, with any absences explained. 
  • Rehearsing for ensembles outside of school time.
