Sports Excellence

​​​​The High Performance Sports Program is offered as part of the HPE curriculum at Mabel Park State High School. Students will have the opportunity to pursue a course focusing on one of the following sports including - Rugby League, Football, Basketball, Netball or Australian Football League (AFL).

We are looking for students who are motivated and committed to their designated sport. Each student within their chosen Academy of Excellence will contribute to a positive and successful culture within our school environment. In order to achieve this, high expectations will be placed upon each student. It is recommended, each child attends Tial/Gala days for their chosen sport.  Dates for these trials will be published via our Facebook Page – Mabel Park State High School.

Selection Criteria

  • Gold applicants must demonstrate: B standard or higher in behaviour and effort, 95% or above school attendance + demonstration of ability in relevant sport
  • Platinum applicants must demonstrate: Gold selection criteria + frequent A grade selection
  • Elite applicants must demonstrate: Platinum selection criteria + demonstration of extra-curricula activities such as, but not limited to, carnivals and/or Queensland/MET or equivalent level and include a detailed history of their playing experience within their written application.

Conditions

High expectations and adherence to student contract including:

  • B standard or higher in behaviour and effort, 95% or above school attendance
  • Always wear correct full school uniform. 
  • Always wear correct training uniform for any gym and/or field session. The academy training uniforms should ONLY be worn during academy and training sessions.
  • Being available to play in all MPSHS games including trials if and when selected.
  • Maintain playing form to consistently warrant selection within the “A" Team.
  • Maintaining a strong commitment to training which includes participating in every session unless medically unfit (Medical Certificate/Clearance to be provided). ​

Please note that it is expected that students will purchase a training kit (Nitro Training Shirt, Training Shorts and Socks) from their uniform credit. Where remaining uniform credit exists students should be used to purchase a formal uniform.  These credits will NOT be applied until students have returned their signed paperwork, and have commenced attending Mabel Park State High School at the commencement of the 2024 school year. Should the student already have the required training kit, the credit may be used on other uniform items.

Please note that the following kits are required per sporting academy for the commencement of training in 2024.

All items are available for purchase from Flexischools (online purchasing) or directly from our Uniform Shop currently open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday from 8.00am to 10.00am. 


Please note that students will be provided with their scholarship credits once invoices are issued in the beginning of the year.  These items will initially show on your invoice, and will be credited off by Term 2. 

Any lost uniforms or requirement for multiple items will need to be purchased at your own expense. 

 Application Process

Application packages are delivered to local primary schools and promoted internally and externally from Mabel Park State High School.​

  1. School Nomination - Students who have previously received Scholarships are invited to re-apply each year.  Offers will be made to students in Term 4 of 2023. Students & Parents receive the application package documentation.

  2. Application Package - Students and Parents/Carers must complete the Application Package and submit to Mabel Park State High School - Main Administration by Week 10 of Term 1.

    Performing & Visual Arts Academy Scholarship applications may also be submitted by email to thearts@mabelparkshs.eq.edu.au

    Applications will be accepted outside of these timeframes for exceptional students entering the Mabel Park State High School Community during the school year.  When submitting the Application Package you must include:

    1. Student Personal Details Form – fully completed.
    2. Most recent Report Card.
    3. Student Contract signed by both Parent/Guardian and student.
    4. Visual Art Academy Scholarships only must provide a folio submission – see artist folio task
       
  3. Assessment – MPSHS Scholarship Panel will assess the Application submission.

  4. ​Student Notification – Successful and Unsuccessful Applicants will be formally notified in writing.

Please note all Scholarships are for the period of 12 months ONLY. All previous recipients must re-apply.  Scholarship Leaders (allocated MPSHS staff) review scholarship recipients' data and progress to determine recipient suitability to re-apply.

To re-apply, a student would need to demonstrate their commitment to program and/or meet the required standards. For students who wish to re-apply - Please complete the written application and submit to the main Administration Office.

For students who are new to Mabel Park SHS:
  • In Catchment – follow our school enrolment procedure
  • Out of Catchment – follow our school out of catchment procedure
