The Football Excellence Program at Mabel Park State High School supports approximately 160 students, the majority of whom come from refugee backgrounds representing a wide range of ethnicities. With a strong focus on team culture and character development, the program is designed to ensure students leave Mabel Park not only as skilled players but as respectful, humble, and well-rounded individuals. The program has built a strong reputation across South East Queensland for producing competitive teams made up of players known for doing things the right way – with integrity, discipline, and respect.
Opportunities in Football Excellence
Our Football Excellence Program is designed to develop not only exceptional players but also well-rounded individuals who play with pride, passion, and purpose. Students in the Football Academy are provided with a wide range of opportunities to enhance their skills, compete at a high level, and grow both on and off the field.
Currently, our students compete in four major competitions each year, with plans to expand further in the future.
Opportunities include:
- Football Queensland Q League Competitions
- Football Queensland Schools Futsal Competitions
- Schools Futsal League Queensland Competitions
- Interschool Futsal Competitions
- Up to 5 x 70 minute training sessions every week across all year levels
- Professional player pathways through links with local football clubs, futsal clubs, NPL clubs and Brisbane Roar
- Career pathway guidance in sport, coaching, and related industries
- Training under AFC C License Football / AFC Level 1 Futsal coaches with National experience
- Leadership and teamwork development programs
- Recognition and awards (including scholarships) for high achieving players

How to Apply
Selection Criteria
- Attend trial days
- High standard of attendance, behaviour, effort and achievement evident in 2 most recent report cards
Conditions
High expectations and adherence to student contract including:
- B standard or higher in behaviour and effort, 95% or above school attendance
- Always wear correct full school uniform.
- Always wear correct training uniform for any gym and/or field session.
- Being available to play in all MPSHS games including trials if and when selected.
- Maintain playing form to consistently warrant selection within the “A" Team.
- Maintain a strong commitment to training which includes participating in every activity
Please note that the Football kit (training shirt, shorts and socks) are required the commencement of training in 2026. All items are available for purchase from Flexischools (online purchasing) or directly from our Uniform Shop.
Application Process
Current students:
To re-apply, a student would need to demonstrate their commitment to the program and/or meet the required standards. This would be based on your current attendance, effort, and behaviour, as well as performance at a re-trial.
