Welcome to the Mabel Park SHS Rugby League Excellence Program!
Mabel Park State High School's Rugby League Excellence Program provides students in Years 7–12 with the opportunity to develop their rugby league skills both on and off the field.
Our program provides a comprehensive pathway for student-athletes at the emerging and elite levels. With a team of experienced and passionate coaches, we deliver high-performance opportunities for skill development through structured training sessions, game strategy workshops, and tailored strength and conditioning programs.

Elite Competition Pathways
Our teams regularly compete at the elite level of the Broncos Cup and Titans Cup competitions — two of the premier school rugby league competitions in Queensland. These high-level competitions provide our students with invaluable experience against the best school teams in the region and serve as a stepping stone toward representative and professional pathways.
Expert Coaching Team
The Mabel Park Rugby League Excellence Program is delivered by a team of qualified and experienced coaches with extensive rugby league backgrounds.
Several of our coaches are actively involved in NRL pathway systems, giving students direct access to elite-level training methods and professional development opportunities.
Our staff also fill regional representative coaching positions across all age groups, ensuring our program remains connected to the broader school sport and development network in Queensland.
Our coaching staff is committed to unlocking every student-athlete's potential — providing expert guidance, performance feedback, and personalised support to help them achieve their best.
Rugby League in the Curriculum
At Mabel Park SHS, rugby league is not just an extracurricular activity — it's part of the curriculum.
Years 7, 8 & 9: Students engage in rugby league-specific classes as part of the Health and Physical Education (HPE) Australian Curriculum.
Years 10, 11 & 12: Students can select Rugby League Studies as a subject under the Sport and Recreation Australian Curriculum. This subject blends classroom theory with practical, on-field training, offering a holistic approach to sports education.

Selection Criteria
- Attend trial days
- High standard of attendance, behaviour, effort and achievement evident in 2 most recent report cards
Conditions
High expectations and adherence to student contract including:
- B standard or higher in behaviour and effort, 95% or above school attendance
- Always wear correct full school uniform.
- Always wear correct training uniform for any gym and/or field session.
- Being available to play in all MPSHS games including trials if and when selected.
- Maintain playing form to consistently warrant selection within the “A" Team.
- Maintain a strong commitment to training which includes participating in every activity
Please note that the Rugby League kit (training shirt, shorts and socks) are required the commencement of training in 2026. All items are available for purchase from Flexischools (online purchasing) or directly from our Uniform Shop.
Application Process
Current students:
To re-apply, a student would need to demonstrate their commitment to the program and/or meet the required standards. This would be based on your current attendance, effort, and behaviour, as well as performance at a re-trial.
