Excellence Program - Creative Industries

​​​​​​​​​​​The aim of the Creative Industries Program of Excellence is to develop a practical competency and understanding of both the performing and visual arts through contemporary dance, drama, music, fine art and ceramics. Additional extracurricular activities are offered to advance students learning beyond the classroom. Students are expected to participate in a variety of these activities as part of their participation in Creative Industries Excellence. 

Opportunity is also provided for students to perform at school and wider community events.

Selection criteria 

Students are selected to participate in Creative Industries Excellence based upon a desire to learn about performing and/or visual arts to showcase their skills through practical performance and fine arts. 

A demonstrated record of attendance at rehearsals and/or extension lessons are prerequisites for selection to the program. An audition (Performing Arts) or folio submission (Visual Arts) will also be required before acceptance into the program.  

Staff qualifications

The teachers involved in the Creative Industries Program of Excellence​ have diverse backgrounds and professional experiences, specialising in a variety of disciplines, including vocal, theatre and dance performance, percussion, orchestral strings, brass and woodwind and technical/studio production.  

Entry requirements 

Performing: All students are required to attend a formal audition. This process will include a 3 minute individual performance piece followed by a brief interview. The audition piece could include, but is not restricted to:
  • an instrumental performance or 
  • a vocal performance or 
  • a dance performance or 
  • a monologue performance.Auditions will be held later in the 2021 school year – date TBA.

 Creative: All students are required to submit a folio that contains the following:

  • Visual Arts application

  • 1 x original artwork which responds to the concept of 'Identity'

Conditions of enrolment

Art:           Participation in weekly Fine Art OR Ceramics lesson after school
Dance:     Participation in weekly Dance Excellence after school rehearsal
Drama:    Participation in weekly Drama Club after school rehearsal
Music:      Participation in a minimum of one of the following each week:
    • Drumline;
    • String Ensemble; or
    • Stage Band.
Maintaining a strong commitment to ensembles, with any absences explained. 
Rehearsing for ensembles outside of school time.
