Scholarships

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Mabel Park State High School offers a range of scholarships in the areas of Academic Excellence, Sporting Excellence, Performing Arts, Leadership and Community.  These scholarships are offered to students who perform at exceptional levels within their field of speciality.  

​Scholarships available in 2024​ include:

  • Maths Science Academy (MSA) Scholarship
  • Bagojei Goromgunn (Rising Star) - Leadership Scholarship
  • Community Scholarship (Student with Disability or EALD)
  • Performing & Visual ​Arts Academy Scholarship
  • High Performance Sports Academy Scholarship

To be awarded a scholarship the application process must be followed. The Application Package must be completed and returned to Mabel Park State High School Administration with all relevant documentation attached (copies of report cards) by no later than Week 10 of Term 1 in 2024.  

Please note Scholarships are valid for a period of 12 months ONLY.  A panel will review scholarship recipients' data and progress to determine  suitability to re-apply. To re-apply, a student would need to demonstrate their commitment to the program and meet the required standards.

With each Scholarship comes student responsibilities, (as per the Scholarship conditions & student contract). If a student fails to maintain their commitment to programs or the required standards of performance, the scholarship can be revoked. Recipients will be reviewed by the scholarship panel regularly. Scholarship recipients at risk of losing their scholarship status will have an opportunity to put forward a personal statement of support to this panel before any final decision to revoke the Scholarship is made. Recipients and parents will be notified of the decision. 


Maths Science Academy (MSA) Scholarship

The MSA Program is offered as part of the curriculum at Mabel Park State High School.  Students with a strong academic ability/interest in Maths and/or Science are identified and after successful application work with the relevant team to achieve their goals. The students in the Maths Science Academy Program have the opportunity to access various enrichment opportunities that enhance the study of Maths, Science, Engineering and Technology.  

The increased pace and the incorporation of design projects linking to real-life applications is designed to keep students motivated and engaged. Additional extra-curricular activities are offered to advance students learning beyond the classroom. 

Selection Criteria

  • a minimum of an A or B standard in their Maths and Science classes, including B standard for behaviour and effort across subjects
  • Demonstration of extra-curricula activities such as, but not limited to, competitions

Conditions

  • maintain a minimum of an A or B standard in their Maths and Science classes
  • B standard or higher in Behaviour and Effort
  • 95% or above school attendance
  • Students are expected to participate in a variety of extra-curricular activities

Inclusions

  • Student Resource Scheme (school fees) for the year to the amount of $200.00 – Applicable to both Junior and Senior Students.
  • Extra subject fees are NOT included.

Scholarships

 
Bagojei Goromgunn (Rising Star) Leadership Scholarship

Students applying for a leadership scholarship must demonstrate leadership qualities and have made a significant contribution to the Mabel Park value of “Respect for All". They may have demonstrated this at Mabel Park SHS or at their Primary School. 

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrates strong leadership qualities and have contributed to Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander cultural understandings within the school or community more broadly.

Conditions

  • B standard or higher in Behaviour and Effort
  • Students maintain leadership qualities and contribution to Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander cultural understandings

Inclusions

  • Student Resource Scheme (school fees) for the year to the amount of $200.00.
  • Extra subject fees are NOT included.

Community Scholarship

The community scholarship is for students with disabilities who represent, respect and contribute to their school community, despite circumstances which may make it difficult for them at times. Such students do not allow their circumstances to stop them from engaging and representing the school community spirit. 

The EALD Community Scholarship is for students who are learning English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D).  These students require additional support to access the curriculum and to develop their academic English language proficiency at school.  They must work hard to be successful at school and contribute to their school community, despite circumstances which may make it difficult for them at times. Such students do not allow their circumstances to stop them from engaging and representing the school community spirit. 

Selection Criteria

  • Student with Disability or EALD Student
  • EALS is a student who has English as ab additional language or dialect
  • 95% attendance.
  • Majority high standards for effort and behaviour.

Conditions

  • Majority high standards for Behaviour and Effort
  • 95% or above school attendance
  • Scholarship recipients will continue to represent and respect their school community at Mabel Park State High.

Inclusions

Student Resource Scheme (school fees) for the year to the amount of $200.00.

Extra subject fees are NOT included.​


Performing and Visual Arts Academy Scholarship

The Arts Academy is offered as part of the curriculum at Mabel Park State High School.  Talented students with a strong musical, dance or artistic ability are identified or self-nominated and after successful application are placed within the Performing & Visual Arts programs. Applicants may be required to audition to become part of the program (Performing Arts) or submit a portfolio (Visual Arts).  Audition dates will be published via our Facebook Page – Mabel Park State High School. Additional extra-curricular activities are offered to advance students' learning beyond the classroom.

Selection Criteria

  • Gold applicants must demonstrate: B standard or higher in Behaviour and Effort, 95% or above school attendance
  • Platinum applicants must demonstrate: Gold selection criteria + demonstration of extra-curricula activities such as, but not limited to, competitions

 Conditions

  • B standard or higher in Behaviour and Effort
  • 95% or above school attendance
  • Participation in lessons/rehearsals

  • Creative Arts shirt ($35.00).

High Performance Sports

The High Performance Sports Program is offered as part of the HPE curriculum at Mabel Park State High School. Students will have the opportunity to pursue a course focusing on one of the following sports including - Rugby League, Football, Basketball, Netball or Australian Football League (AFL).

We are looking for students who are motivated and committed to their designated sport. Each student within their chosen Academy of Excellence will contribute to a positive and successful culture within our school environment. In order to achieve this, high expectations will be placed upon each student. It is recommended, each child attends Tial/Gala days for their chosen sport.  Dates for these trials will be published via our Facebook Page – Mabel Park State High School.

Selection Criteria

  • Gold applicants must demonstrate: B standard or higher in behaviour and effort, 95% or above school attendance + demonstration of ability in relevant sport
  • Platinum applicants must demonstrate: Gold selection criteria + frequent A grade selection
  • Elite applicants must demonstrate: Platinum selection criteria + demonstration of extra-curricula activities such as, but not limited to, carnivals and/or Queensland/MET or equivalent level and include a detailed history of their playing experience within their written application.

Conditions

  • High expectations and adherence to student contract including:
  • B standard or higher in behaviour and effort, 95% or above school attendance
  • Always wear correct full school uniform. 
  • Always wear correct training uniform for any gym and/or field session. The academy training uniforms should ONLY be worn during academy and training sessions.
  • Being available to play in all MPSHS games including trials if and when selected.
  • Maintain playing form to consistently warrant selection within the “A" Team.
  • Maintaining a strong commitment to training which includes participating in every session unless medically unfit (Medical Certificate/Clearance to be provided).

Inclusions

Gold​
  • Academy Fees for their chosen sport to the value of $100.00.
  • School fees are NOT included.
  • Training Kit is NOT included and must be purchased separately from our Uniform Shop.
Platinum
  • Academy Fees for their chosen sport to the value of $100.00.
  • Uniform credit to the value of $110.00.
  • Student Resource Scheme credit (school fees) for the year to the amount of $200.00.
  • Extra subject fees are NOT included.
Elite
  • Academy Fees for their chosen sport to the value of $1​​00.00.
  • Uniform credit to the value of $171.00 (Juniors) and $198.00 (Seniors).
  • Student Resource Scheme credit (school fees) for the year to the amount of $200.00.
  • Extra s​​ubject fees are NOT included.

We are looking for students who are highly motivated and committed to their designated sport.  Each student within their chosen Academy of Sporting Excellence will actively contribute to the school's positive culture.  Each student will be expected to attend a Trial/Gala day for their identified sport.

All items are available for purchase from Flexischools (online purchasing) or directly from our Uniform Shop currently open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday from 8.00am to 10.00am.  

Please note that students will be provided with their scholarship credits once invoices are issued in the beginning of the year.  These items will initially show on your invoice, and will be credited off by Term 2.  ​

Any lost uniforms or requirement for multiple items will need to be purchased at your own expense.
