The English curriculum provides students with the
opportunity to access the very best in programs developed to ensure
success. The role of the English department is to implement programs that
are focused on the improvement of every students reading and writing skills
needed to access all their subjects across the curriculum.
At Mabel Park State High School we achieve this
through engaging students in the Reading 2 Learn program. The
Reading 2 Learn program has been successfully implemented school wide, and is
aimed at the improvement of not only reading and interpreting texts, but also
encourages the improvement of written skills. In addition, the curriculum
also utilises the Accelerated Reader program designed at identifying individual
students reading levels and improving these abilities to ensure all students
achieve success.
Furthermore, to ensure that students at Mabel Park
State High School are not only successful in English but, indeed, across the
Humanities curriculum, the English curriculum has been mapped to coincide with
the History curriculum. This results in students utilising skills within
English and transferring those skills into history and vice versa.
